WHO: | Commemorating All Souls Day, the St. Francis de Sales Choir and the Wagner Ensemble, under the direction of Jeannine Wagner, will perform the Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Requiem in D Minor, K. 626 for Choir and Orchestra. According to Wagner, “The concert is made possible by an unexpected bequest to the choir. None of us knew the generous lady, but we are touched and gratified by this gesture of appreciation.” Wagner is the director of both the St. Francis de Sales Choir and the Wagner Ensemble. |
WHAT: | Founded in 1949, the St. Francis de Sales Choir is one of the leading Church choral groups in Southern California. Throughout the years, choir membership has been comprised of singers from the parish (several are founding members), as well as vocalists from the Los Angeles Opera, the Wagner Ensemble and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. The choir is accompanied by talented organist and multkeyboardist Stephen Park, who has been with St. Francis de Sales since 1979. The choir sings Sundays at 10 a.m. Mass and special performances such as the Duruflé “Requiem,” Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” Schubert’s "Mass in G,” the Fauré “Requiem,” DuBois’ "Seven Last Words," and the very successful “Follies,” the choir’s own variety show which enjoyed a seven year run. In addition, the St. Francis de Sales choir was invited to join several other choirs for the dedication of Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral in Los Angeles.
The Wagner Ensemble was founded by Jeannine Wagner in 1991 under the auspices of the Roger Wagner Choral Institute. Under her spirited guidance, the Ensemble celebrates and promotes the musical legacy of her late father, the legendary Roger Wagner. The Wagner Ensemble has dazzled audiences throughout Southern California and internationally in the performance of repertoire that includes choral masterpieces spanning the centuries from the Renaissance to the present. |
